RDU live show exclusive

Hosted by media experts Cam McCarty and TyraLen, RDU Live (Oak 93.5 FM) transcends the typical radio show experience. As the premier destination for music and entertainment in the Triangle, the show focuses on discovery, creativity, and fostering connections. McCarty and TyraLen emphasize that local artists, curators, and creators play a vital role in enriching the cultural landscape of the community. By offering a platform for these voices, they help bridge divides and unite people.

“ What began as an affinity for live music—whether as a date night, an outing, or a chance to meet up with friends—grew into something so much bigger. We started filming and interviewing artists in the local jazz community, discovering not just their talent but their stories, struggles, and dedication. Those experiences opened our eyes to the larger music scene in the Triangle—a scene filled with incredible diversity and passion,” said McCarty.

RB: Why is it imperative to showcase artists, curators, and creators in the RDU area?

RDU: “Supporting local talent not only fuels economic development but also paves the way for collaboration and innovation. Artists and creators often lead cultural movements, influencing our perspectives and inspiring future generations. By showcasing their work, we ensure that their valuable contributions receive the recognition they deserve on a broader stage,”

RB: When audiences listen to the RDU Live show or participate in an event, what feelings do you aim to inspire in them?

RDU: “At the heart of everything we do is our belief in the power of authenticity. We approach every show with the motto, say something that means something. That means every show, every event, and every artist we feature is chosen with intention and purpose. We want our audience to walk away feeling like they’ve experienced something meaningful”

The show aims to go beyond a typical radio program by merging on-air content with genuine community interaction. It connects listeners with local talent through storytelling and fosters community ties, celebrating the creative spirit of the RDU region, making the show truly unique.

“While many stations focus on mainstream hits, we intentionally highlight emerging artists, curators, and creators from the RDU area, giving them a space to shine where they might not otherwise have the opportunity,”

Among RDU's impressive lineup of shows, one interview stands out: their inaugural conversation with CJ Baker. This moment was memorable not only for being their first interview but also for CJ's vibrant energy and visionary outlook. He shared his experiences and passion, reigniting the hosts' appreciation for their work and reminding them of RDU's mission.

“His belief in us during those early days showed us that what we were building wasn’t just a dream but something real, attainable, and impactful,” said McCarty.

“Ultimately, we see The RDU Live Show evolving into a comprehensive production and media powerhouse, dedicated to empowering local talent and fostering creativity in every form. With every step we take, our mission will remain the same: to celebrate and elevate the incredible voices that make North Carolina’s creative scene so special,”
