White House Blocks AP Reporter
NPR - The White House denied access to an Associated Press reporter during an Oval Office event on Tuesday, following a demand for the news organization to modify its terminology regarding the Gulf of Mexico, which President Donald Trump has directed to be referred to as the Gulf of America.
The reporter, who remains unnamed by the AP, attempted to attend the event as per usual on Tuesday afternoon but was refused entry. Subsequently, another AP journalist was also prevented from attending a late-night gathering in the White House Diplomatic Room.
Nonetheless, the White House defends its decision to block a reporter from The Associated Press. The president's main spokesperson showed no remorse for attempting to enforce the preferred terminology of the president on the news agency.
"It is a privilege to cover this White House," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Wednesday. "Nobody has the right to go into the Oval Office and ask the president of the United States questions. That's an invitation that is given."
