Arrest Made In Student Death
A man was arrested in relation to the tragic death of a Louisiana college student who collapsed after enduring multiple punches to the chest during a hazing event, according to police reports.
Authorities have identified Caleb McCray, 23, a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and graduate of Southern University as the individual who allegedly struck Caleb Wilson several times during the off-campus initiation. He faces charges of criminal hazing and manslaughter.
His bond was set at $75,000 for the manslaughter charge and $25,000 for the hazing charge. He was released on bond Friday night, March 7, shortly before 10 p.m.
Caleb Wilson, a 20-year-old student studying mechanical engineering and a member of the college band at Southern University and A&M in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was the victim in this incident.
The attorney representing McCray emphasized the importance of due process, urging the public to refrain from making hasty judgments until all evidence is presented.
According to the chief, over a dozen people were interviewed about this incident. The chief could not say yet whether those who lied about what happened to Wilson will face charges as it is still under investigation.
There are also two others are facing charges in connection with the death of Caleb Wilson, but no names have been released.
The investigation is ongoing and remains active. McCray's lawyer issued a statement addressing the charges being brought against his client.
